As my son would say… LET’S DO THIS THING!

Some days I’ve got so many photo shoot ideas, I can’t keep track of them all. Other days (like today) I struggle to come up with something interesting and start to get nervous as the clock ticks down toward midnight.

I did what I frequently do when I’m stuck for ideas and I went searching for help, first in Ron’s office. As I was asking him what I should shoot for today, I saw one of my custom scrapbook albums from the very first book signing I did at a scrapbook store in Santa Rosa, California. It was perfect and another chance for me to use my new portable lighting studio.

tasra365 custom scrapbook 1 Custom Album: All About Me (D196)This album was a custom project we created for the people who came out to my book signing for Real Women Scrap. What a moment of pure joy. I’m sure I was grinning ear to ear the entire time.

tasra365 custom scrapbook Custom Album: All About Me (D196)Seeing this album and these images makes me a bit nostalgic for the days when I spent more time hands on with my scrapbook paper and supplies. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love everything I’m learning with photography and the hands on aspects of improving my craft. I just think it’d be good for me to find more time to bring the two together. I’m thinking it’s probably time for another Real Women Scrap TV episode too! What do you think?

Images: David Beckstead, an amazing photographer in his own right, decided that he is going to start doing more intentional study of photographers from the past. He posted his first review of Avedon’s work on his Facebook page today. I can’t wait to hear about his journey and discovery of “old” photographers!

tasra365 newspaper cover frame What do you do when your real life exceeds your dreams? (D174)It’s a good problem to have. Where do you go, what do you do after you’ve hit your target and reached or exceeded your dreams? The title of today’s post is actually a quote from the late 80′s movie, Broadcast News. Quite relevant, since my image today is the front page of the newspaper. Leave it to my filmmaker husband to have such quotes always at the ready. Here’s why it fits…

THE FRONT PAGE!
Today my contest winning image was on the front page of the Post. Never did I ever think that I would have one of my images published on the front page of a newspaper. I just didn’t even think it would happen. My real life exceeded my dreams today, and it’s not even the first time it’s happened. I can think of five specific times when my real life exceeded my dreams…

  1. Having my image on the front page of the Post and having someone else tell me they saw it!
  2. Appearing on 3 major media outlet shows, ABC News, NBC View from the Bay, and the Harvest Show.
  3. Getting my first book, Real Women Scrap, published and selling out of the first print run within 3 months.
  4. Marrying the man of my dreams in the same chapel I grew up in and used to pray and dream about my wedding day.
  5. Meeting my husband after seven years as a single mom when I had nearly given up hope of ever being married.

FINDING COURAGE
Reading back over the list, I want to make sure it doesn’t sound like bragging, that’s not my intention at all. I still look at those events as almost entirely out of my control and truly the grace of God. The reason I frequently write, blog, and speak about courage and confidence and pursuing your passion is because for so long and even still I struggle with finding the courage to step out and really go for what I dream. But what I’m finding and always takes me by surprise are the results I see when I add just a little bit of faith, hope, and courage to the mix. I find that my real life exceeds my dreams, nearly every time.

I’m going to let today be another marker, a turning point, a stick in the sand, a monument… whatever you want to call it. It’s one more moment that gives my heart the message that going for your dreams is worth it. The effort and struggle are worth it. Believing  in the dream, even when you can’t see it, is worth it. Even if it doesn’t turn out the way you envision, often (at least for me) it’s 100 times better!

WHAT NEXT?
So what do you do when your real life exceeds your dreams? Dream bigger. Try harder. Reach deeper. Believe stronger. Move faster. And always remember that where you’re headed is even better than you could imagine.

tasra365 funny face D106: Do You Ever Feel Like This...This pretty much sums up how I’ve been feeling the last few days. Launching a new site, combining two blogs, crafting a new vision for you and me in the future… that’s pretty tough work. Amazing, challenging, inspiring, but still tough.

So I’m going to let go of the perfectionist in me. I’m also going to let go of the training I got at Apple about not letting anything out of the door that hasn’t been picked through with a fine tooth comb. That just isn’t feasible right now and I really want to show off my new baby!

Here she is, the new site and home of tasra365 and Real Women Scrap. tasramar.com is the combination of my passions: photography, scrapbooking, writing, reading, and blogging. It is also a home that I’ve been envisioning for a while. Take a minute to read my vision – I’d love for you to hear my story and the inspiration behind where I’ve been and where I’d like us to go.

As with all new sites, there will be kinks to work out and tweaks to make. Those will continue to happen over the next few weeks. Going through 3 years of articles is quite a job for one busy girl.

I would absolutely treasure your feedback and input. You can leave a comment here, send me an email or twitter message. However you’d like to share, I wanna hear it. If something doesn’t work, if something is missing that you expected, if you’d like to see something added, let me know. Also let me know what you like, what works, how the transition is, and all that other good stuff too.

Here’s a quick tour…

You’ll find the latest tasra365 posts in the left hand column under the Featured Gallery.

I’ll put some of the most popular posts in the Featured Gallery so check there for updates.

New videos will be posted in the right hand column under the gallery.

The sidebar has Recent Posts from all categories and Most Popular posts within the last week.

I’ll leave you with that for now, while I leave my perfectionist tendencies at the door too. Thanks for letting me be part of your world. Please share how I can help you make 2010 your most creative and inspired year ever!
