Archives For photo shoot

I heard it every time I did a photo shoot with a teen or tween girl… many women too… I always wanted to be a model.

Do they really want to be a model? Or do they crave the validation they feel modeling gives?

Is it really fun to dress in clothing that reveals more than it conceals?

Do they really want to deny themselves food they like so they can be thin?

Are they yearning to stand under hot lights in awkward positions?

Or is it something else?

A desire to be noticed, recognized, acknowledged, seen…

A longing to be accepted, wanted, desired, beautiful

Perhaps there is another way, another option. I believe there is.

Don’t you?

Fun. Creative. Quirky.

Lourdes, one of our Teen Identity team members, has a lot of living left to do… with dreams for creative endeavors, she’s got plenty of time to make them reality. Her answers are simple and straight to the point… much like Lourdes.

What do you value most in your life currently?

I’ve always loved music and on the days that mom takes away my radio or albums or something I could seriously die. I know that sounds really over dramatic, but that’s just how I feel. I really don’t know where I would be or what I would do without it, because it’s gotten me through so much.

scarlett feature3 Photo Shoot + Interview with Aspiring Teen Musician: Scarlett RayneWhat is your vision of your future?

I really hope to have a pretty successful music career, I don’t expect to have a career anywhere near bands like Led Zeppelin or Aerosmith or Jefferson Airplane, but I hope that I get somewhere.

What characteristics do you look for in friends? How do you choose your friends?

I usually don’t walk into a room full of people I don’t know and meet someone, I usually take a few days to realize who’s worth my time and who’s not. I don’t like being associated with people who have very hateful or violent personalities or views on life and people who just constantly put people down or think that there are better than everyone.

I really can’t stand liars or brown nosers; the people that will say anything to impress you or please you, what’s wrong with being honest and just saying what you feel and being yourself? (I get it if you’re trying to find yourself but don’t make up a life or be mean while doing it.)

Those are usually the people that I get along with; the people that say they like the color pink just because everyone that they’re around does, and the people that tell me that they like my pants because that’s what I want to hear.

Bottom line, I like friends to be very honest (not mean), genuinely loving, nice people who are true to themselves.

What do you say or tell your friends when they’re feeling down or depressed?

I usually have to say something along the lines of, “Hang in there, there are things to live for, you just have to find them. Giving up is easy, keep holding on and one day you will find that something to live for.

scarlett feature2 Photo Shoot + Interview with Aspiring Teen Musician: Scarlett Rayne

Sometimes it may feel that you’re the only one that’s hurting, the only one that’s in this position, that life couldn’t get any worse and this is the only way out, but it’s not and you’re not the only one, you’re not alone, you just need to hang in there and I promise you, you will see that light at the end of the tunnel things will get better, You just have to take life one moment at a time. Things will get better, trust me they will; I promise you.”

What do you worry about most?

I’ve learned that life is waaayyyy too short to worry about things, things that are most of the time out of your control, and that I shouldn’t worry about anything and just enjoy life; live life to the fullest.

Describe your ideal world related to how girls are treated… at home, at school, at work, in life.

Lots of women are taken advantage of, screamed at, beaten, and held to higher standard just because of being women, I really don’t understand why. All that happens to men too, but a lot less because they’re just that, men. I really hope that women will one day be respected more and treated better, and not held to such a high standard because we are only human.

Powerful. Authentic. Honest.

IN HER OWN WORDS

What My Ideal World Looks Like

paige teen identity photo feature2 Teen Identity Photo Feature: My Friends Are Weird

I definitely think girls deserve a lot more respect. Girls are just treated as objects. I can’t stand how in today’s society girls are judged solely on appearance. It’s about how fashionable their clothes are, how big their boobs are, how skinny they are, or how much makeup they can apply.

I almost wish make up was never invented and there weren’t nearly as many styles of clothes as they are today.

I wish girls would be “judged” based off of their personality…
and the things that they have total control over.

Who cares what we look like? We didn’t choose our appearance or what clothes/make up we can afford, but we do choose how we treat others and how we respond to things.

How I Choose My Friends

paige teen identity photo feature Teen Identity Photo Feature: My Friends Are Weird

In high school I would say most teens pick their friends based on almost only good looks and popularity. I think I’m like the complete opposite… For some reason I’m always drawn to the kids in class that don’t have a lot of friends and don’t have the nicest outfits on.

People always say my friends are “weird.”
And I totally agree.

But I like people who are different and don’t get all caught up in high school. I like when they are not afraid to be their own person and don’t care what others think. I like girls that aren’t judgmental and aren’t constantly worrying about what they’re wearing or what others think about how they act. I think those are the people that get the most out of life. I can honestly have fun with them and not worry about getting embarrassed in front of them.

My Photo Shoot Prep

paige teen identity photo feature3 Teen Identity Photo Feature: My Friends Are Weird

I spent a while getting all “glamoured up” for the photo shoot. I hardly ever dress up or do my hair anymore so it’s nice to sometimes spend a little time getting dressed up. I had my mom curl my hair right before we left and I put on my make up. I didn’t really practice posing, but I knew I wanted lots of pictures with big smiles!

Pictures of people smiling and laughing are my favorite.

What I Value

I value God most. I’ve figured out that this whole world is about Him, and He is the only reason we are here. I think people get so caught up in this world that we are missing what life we really is… We are each here for a purpose and that purpose can be found through God.

I can’t wait to get out of school and live my purpose.

My Favorite Photo Shoot Memories

I loved getting to help out with timing and holding the fan lol icon smile Teen Identity Photo Feature: My Friends Are Weird I like helping with behind the scenes stuff. But I really liked getting individual pictures of just me. I felt awesome being all dressed up and knowing you can take awesome pictures! I also liked getting to talk with the girls upstairs. It was nice getting to know more about them and just spending time hanging out together! They’re all so nice!

Many have asked how we do it all… how I do it all. You’re about to find out.

Some days it feels like someone, something or the world in general is out to get you, knock you down, trip you up, and thwart your highest hopes, greatest dreams and best plans.

Am I right?

Other days you feel like you’re unstoppable, invincible, and moving mountains. Yes?

What’s the difference? What’s the worst enemy of your success? Not the only, just the worst.

Answer these questions to reveal your worst enemy…

  1. Has anyone broken more promises to you than you?
  2. Has anybody lied to you more than you lie to yourself?
  3. Is anybody a worse enemy to you than you are?

Let’s make this simple. I’ll answer for you. No. On all three counts. Disagree? Go back to question #2.

We’re the problem.

Before you crawl in a hole or pull the covers back up over your head, hear me out. Don’t hide behind the smoke and mirrors of self esteem mumbo-jumbo that really masks the issue. I’m not saying you’re a mistake, a screw-up, irrevocably flawed, or that you’re not valuable.

What I am saying is:

If you’re the problem, you’re responsible.

Before you buckle underneath the weight, you must know that this is GOOD NEWS because:

  • Responsibility is power.
  • Responsibility is the ability to respond.
  • Responsibility = Response + ability.

Don’t miss this.

Let it ruminate. Let it seep into your being like a river of clean water removing and refining any junk left over from someone else’s or your own harsh words and criticism.

Realizing, embracing and being empowered by it gives you freedom to stop hiding. I don’t know what you hide behind but there are some common smoke and mirrors:

  • degrees
  • career/job title
  • finances
  • fans/followers/friends
  • subscribers/page views
  • equipment
  • marital status
  • looks
  • body
  • religion

What would you add to the list?

I’ll be back this week to unpack these ideas more. Until then, remind yourself of who you are.

Much has been written and talked about in reference to taking action, including productivity and making ideas happen. For those in the creative professions or aspiring creative professionals, how can we harness this power of action to move our businesses forward… or at the very least move one step closer to the fulfillment of bring the vision in our minds to reality?

A couple weeks ago, we took action on an idea that had been brewing for a while. We wanted to do a fantasy shoot with our Media and Model Team of teen girls from Teen Identity. They are a group of girls we meet with at least twice a month. Once a month we have a photo shoot or video shoot, but October 22nd we decided to combine the two to create something different, something that none of the girls would have ever experienced before.

Location secured, styling and outfits procured, ideas cultivated, inspiration binder created, storyboard drafted, and music selected. The title and voiceover would come later, but we knew the direction we were going.

Was it a lot of work? Yes, without a doubt. Was it worth it? Yes, without a doubt.

Sometimes I have to admit that I question why we do what we do. I know that’s normal, but it’s never fun to question all the work you invest into a project, group or even person. It’s hard to feel that maybe you care too much or that the outcomes of any particular project, shoot or business mean more than they should. But that is the case with the creative heart and soul. As much as I’ve tried to stay distanced or create a work boundary, I never succeed since I do really care so much about each and every one of the teen girls on our team.

But when I sit back and look at what we create practically and the experience we offer, I know that it matters, the work matters, and the experience changes lives, futures, and therefore, the world. Doubt that?

Think about this.

When you were a teenager…

  • Did you struggle with wondering if you were valuable?
  • Did you wonder if you were pretty enough?
  • Did you question whether people really liked you?
  • Did you wish someone would “see” you… really see the core of you and accept it?
  • Did you ever secretly hope someone would “discover” you and that your life would be forever changed?

If you answered yes to even one of these questions… or maybe all, WHAT IF… that had all happened for you… at 12, 13, 15 or even 18? What difference would it have made on your choices for school, friends, relationships, career, life?

Really think about it. That’s what keeps me going. I KNOW if these questions had been addressed in the affirmative for me with caring friends and adults, a close team of girls and visual evidence with photos and videos, my ENTIRE IDENTITY could have been affected.

So that’s why we took action to change the world with our photo shoot… Tribe Quest. Watch the trailer now. See more images. Film coming soon!

I’m not quite sure how it happened, but we went from a hot summer without too busy of a shooting schedule, to an immediate rush in the last four weeks of photo shoot after photo shoot. It’s been astonishing just how busy we’ve really been. I dare say the busiest season we’ve seen so far… and that’s a mighty good thing. A blessing for sure.

Not only is it exciting to see so many teens and seniors have a chance to strut their stuff in studio or on location, but it’s such an honor to be able to capture who these beautiful young woman are at this special time in their lives. These are moments to treasure forever. I’m so thrilled parents aren’t just waiting until senior year of high school to have professional portraits done. There are so many changes every single year, especially once they hit those junior high years. It’ll be a treasure when their kids have graduated and are jet-setting across the world to look back and see those images that bring back such sweet memories.

One thing that is fantastic about such a packed schedule is that I am always ready to shoot… no chance for skills to get rusty or feel like I need to get back in the swing of things… if the clients keep coming, then my skills just keep getting better (if I do say so myself.)

Thought it’d be fun to post a few images that we’ve captured of teen and senior portraits to show a slice of what we’ve been up to at the studio lately! How has the season been shaping up for you lately?

teen identity teen senior photoshoot images 600x600 Teen & Senior Portrait Photography Season Rushes In

We were originally scheduled to shoot Whitney’s senior portraits at 1 pm… after a brief stint in the sun for Kaitlyn’s senior session yesterday, we decided 5 pm was a better starting time. We are in Atlanta after all, the South, with all that heat and humidity that makes a girl look less than fresh for her images. That meant filming the “Meet the Team” video for Teen Identity, then heading straight into Whitney’s photo shoot.

Despite that, we ended up out and about for one of our longest single senior sessions. Locations, outfits, poses, all unlimited. It was an absolute pleasure working with Whitney again… she was our model of the year last year. Her dress was unbelievable and screamed for a fan so it could swirl and twirl around her. We accommodated with two fans on either side, along with lights, camera and action.

It was a senior portrait shoot fit for a queen (technically Whitney was junior homecoming princess last year, so we’re thinking queen her senior year is a pretty safe bet).

Enjoy the sneak peek…

When Kaitlin pulled out the ivory white, ultra cool, electric guitar, I wasn’t sure we had the right girl. A self-admitted prissy girl, who would’ve thought behind that feminine and dainty exterior was a rock star waiting to get out.

The senior portrait session with her today really exemplified the “unleash” part of “unleash your true beauty.”

Let the rocker-girl come out!
