Featured Photographer Carrie Stadelman shares her inspiration for embarking on her first 365 challenge in 2012!

I started the 365 project to get some motivation…

After months of being stressed and overworked from the summer and fall (not to mention being pregnant), doing photography everyday was the last thing on my mind. However, I am a forever student. I don’t believe in settling and am always striving to make myself a better artist.

You can always learn something, even if you feel you know it all. So I thought this project was the perfect way to do that.

My goal is to try something new each day, something that I have been dying to learn or just something simple that I need to improve on to make my work more consistent. (Can we say White Balance?).

I want to try a new technique, new lighting style, new photoshop trick; just anything and everything that will help me move to the next level.

I know myself pretty well, and my biggest fear is that I will set my goals too high and not be able to reach them. I tend to jump into things feet first with the best of intentions and don’t always come up for air, and therefore drown. I want to prove to myself that I can do this, and will!

My hope is that I can continue this journey all year and see a much needed improvement in myself as an artist, my photographic style and my business as a whole.

Nine years ago, I knew very little about photography and even less about wedding photography. I didn’t know what was possible… and my wedding images reflect that. Or at least they did until I started scanning them and re-imagining them the way I would’ve liked them to be.

Now, I’ve just tried my hand at a few and I have to say that I’m in love all over again. Instead of seeing everything that I’d like to change about the image, I can change it and just enjoy the heart of the photo… my hubby and me.

Are there any images in your library that you could re-imagine and infuse new life?

Photography is more than your camera, it’s a tool, not unlike a paintbrush or instrument, that has the power to evoke emotion, transform a life, and leave an indelible mark on our souls.

Listening to the teaching of master photographers like Jerry Ghionis and Jeremy Cowart, each different and yet similar, I was reminded that returning to who we are at the very essence will inform, improve, and shape our images more than any photography class or skills-based training available.

Soak in the words that inspired me to emerge from yesterday’s valley to create artful images today…

We shine most when we are creating.

I wrote it specifically to inspire and encourage women photographers ready to break into professional photography or even just move forward with their dreams and vision in the profession. I’ve been converted… to juicing. I’ve heard about it, seen funny infomercials about it, and now here I am, converted.

It started with my detox last week. When I posted about it on Facebook, one of the responses I got was from Kristen, a video producer in the Bay Area. She suggested I pick up the book, The Raw Food Detox Diet: The Five-Step Plan for Vibrant Health and Maximum Weight Loss. I did.

In it there is a juice recipe for Green Lemonade. The final result is in the first image. Ingredients are in the second: apple, lemon, kale, spinach (or leafy green).

I thought I would just give it a try. If it was gross, like most green drinks, I’d skip it. Much to my surprise, it actually tastes good. Really good. And the energy I feel after drinking it is markedly different than how I feel after a full breakfast of bacon and eggs, or even cold cereal.

So this is my new morning routine. Upon rising, I wash my assortment of veggies and fruits, run them through the juicer, and drink! Who knew something so healthy could taste so good?
