We’re creatives here, right? Passionate, committed, inspired artists.

We’re also busy, sometimes (often) overwhelmed spouses, friends, parents, siblings, bosses, employees… the list goes on.

So how do we walk the tightrope between the often dramatically opposing roles we play in life.

How do we stop “playing” a role instead of really living a life?

Those are the questions at the forefront of my mind today.

Here’s what I think…

Don’t learn the hard way. The hard way is how I learned. Nearly 8 years ago I took medical leave from my job teaching out of sheer exhaustion… physical and emotional depletion that robbed me of the very essence of who I was and what I believed to be true. I began the journey then of discovering the high value of connection and creativity.

Connection and creativity are two sides of a coin you cannot separate.

You need your relationships and connections as much as you need your creative outlets and artistic dreams.

Your big idea. My big idea. I believe they are right there waiting to be discovered, uncovered, unveiled, and revealed. It takes only a small shift to unlock millions of dormant ideas.

THREE TIPS TO UNLOCKING IDEAS

  1. Go to bed. Your body and mind need the restoration that comes from deep sleep. Get some and watch your mind unlock for you.
  2. Get a drink. No, I’m not talking about gin and tonic. Water. Pure water. Your body needs it. Your creativity craves it. There’s a whole book that backs me up!
  3. Change the story. The story you tell yourself about your success or failure… change that. Write a new one, literally… write it down and read it every morning.
Simple. You can do this. Try it and see what shifts for you.

I’m serious! tasra365 revolver journal 4 And the Winner of the Dual Notebook for Creatives is... YOU!Remember a few weeks ago when I introduced you to the latest revolution in notebooks, the RevolveR? We replaced our moleskins and fell in love with the duality of this amazing journal.

YOUR INSPIRED IDEAS
I had some of the best comments and ideas about how people would use this notebook to make their lives better. Here are some of my favorites…

  1. That is brilliant! I’m forever carrying around several books…one for work, one for general life! Having two books in one is genius. I love great design. ~Kim
  2. If I had one of these I would share it with my sweetheart. I would write love notes to him in one side and leave it on his nightstand, then he could write love notes to me and put it back on my nightstand. Two beginnings with one happy ending! ~ Alisa
  3. This would be perfect for my double life: I could use the green one for everything about photography (new ideas and projects) and the black one for my sw engineering profession. icon smile And the Winner of the Dual Notebook for Creatives is... YOU! ~Caramella
  4. These look perfect for writing. I would use the blank side to do mind maps–character development, plot development, brainstorming; and the lined side to write. ~Susan
  5. I would use one side as my photography inspiration journal-ideas to try, locations, etc. and on the flip side would be my Mommy Journal. I always think to myself….I should write that down, the girls might find that funny one day. But none the less…I never do. ~Melissa

Sounds like it’s perfect for writers, photographers, engineers, business people, parents, anyone in a relationship, people who work… just about anyone! So how could I read all those inspiring ideas and not find a way to get these amazing notebooks in your hands? I couldn’t, which is why  EVERYONE IS A WINNER! Here’s how…

Circumstance does not make the man; it reveals him to himself…He will find that as he alters his thoughts toward things and other people, things and other people will alter toward him. —James Allen (quoted in Real Women Scrap, pg. 111)

Ever find yourself in need of a fresh perspective, an altered way of looking at a situation, person, or object? We could probably all raise our hands on that one. That’s why I taught a class about it to a Moms Group Tuesday night, and we created an altered journal project to remind them of what they learned.

Here’s a peek at the project…

momsgroupjournal web Heres a Quick Way to Alter Your Perspective

So how can we alter our perspective…and quick? Here are 3 techniques:

  1. See beyond the plain to the possibility. Taking a new view of something plain and looking for the transformation, the change, the possibility is one way to get some perspective. Take 5 minutes to think of something that is boring, mundane or plain in your life and brainstorm on paper or just in your mind, how you could make it different. Then, choose one way and do it!
  2. Anticipate the unexpected. Unexpected, unplanned, unwanted events jump into our lives so frequently that it’s beneficial to anticipate them. Create space in your day or life to deal with these events. That might mean getting more rest so you can deal with them, or setting aside thirty minutes of miscellaneous time. That cushion of time will help you manage the unexpected, because they will come.
  3. Imagine. Live. Create. Creativity doesn’t always come in the form of art. We can live creatively and allow our lives to be a reflection of the altered view we have of the world. Imagine a new way of doing an old routine. Live in the moment instead of regretting the past and planning for the future. Create a visual or artistic representation of the change in your life and embrace it.

Whether it’s an empty, discarded cigar box or a life-altering illness, it’s all about your view. Reimagine how your circumstances could be. Give your life the new perspective it deserves and see what wonderful things begin to take shape. (Real Women Scrap, pg. 120)

In what ways could you use an altered perspective? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
