Archives For art journal

art journal title Art Journal: A New Chapter

I’ve admired the work of art journalers for a long time. In fact, I even wrote about them in my book, Real Women Scrap.

Yet, I always found a reason that I couldn’t make one. Since I’ve been on sabbatical, I’ve been digging up art supplies and going through the ones that inspire me to create. I’m finally diving in and creating pages. Random pages that I someday hope to combine into a book. For now, they are bits and pieces of art, chalk, paint, watercolor, and words.

It just became time to dive in. Are you ready to dive in?

Exploring Art Journals

My creativity is being re-ignited. It’s started in small ways and showing up in areas long forgotten.

All of a sudden I have recollections of coloring for hours on end when I was young (and not so young). I remember the calming effect coloring had on my mind and heart.

Here’s what I want to know…

  1. Why is it that so many coloring books are created for children?
  2. Where are the coloring books for grown-ups?
  3. Why is it that once we get older, we must create our own pictures to color?

Makes me think.

This is a close up shot of my first art journal page. I’m starting a new book, bringing in my writing, scrapbooking, and photography to create a new chapter.

What about you? Have you ever created an art journal?
