Sticks and Stones… (D266)
You know the rest, but that’s not really what I was thinking when I shot today’s images. I just saw these cool looking sticks in a random arrangement and decided they would make a good subject. I shot from the ground looking up at the top of the arrangement so I could separate out some of the wavy sticks from the pack of the rest of them. Seems the ones that stood out were more interesting that the big group all stuck together in the... [Read More...]

A Style All Her Own (D187)
My mother in law was one fashionable woman. She could pull off any form of leopard print without a problem. Even her figurines and decorations in her home were stylish (see exhibit A below). She would coach me on being a little more edgy, adding some spice to my wardrobe, and even helped me along with some trendy purses. Perhaps she learned it while living in Los Angeles… maybe she was born with it. Me… not so much. My mother in law... [Read More...]
Your heART Could Change the World (D184)
THE WORLD NEEDS YOU Whether it’s sharing your vision through photography, your voice through writing, or your experience through creating albums and scrapbooks, what you see, say, and express matters. PART OF YOUR WORLD Today I had one of those moments when I received a message from a reader. I sat... [Read More...]
Seeing Double: Senior Twins Photo Shoot (D180)
I love my job. Even though I barely slept at all last night, I woke up excited for today’s Teen Identity senior photo shoot… twin sisters. Twin Fascination Twins are a fascination. My best friend in high school was a twin, but you wouldn’t have ever known by looking at or spending time with them. They were very different. My cousins are twins too and when they were younger I could barely tell them apart. It wasn’t until we... [Read More...]
Chris Brogan Got It Right—Custom IS Everything (D169)
Maybe “everything” is a bit of hyperbole. I’m willing to give you that. Simplicity and personality are important as well when it comes to connecting with guests, clients, customers… even friends. But after reading Chris Brogan’s post about the importance of customization, you can imagine my pure delight when I opened up a package with my new custom Teen Identity iPhone cases. We ordered black and pink to maintain our... [Read More...]
Fix it in Post… or Not (D149)
The deeper I get into the photography world, the more I learn all the little sayings that photographers have adopted and said through the ages. One of the first that I heard was “Fix it in post.” This week I’m focusing on how not to have to fix it in post. The question I’m asking this week is… How can I focus on lighting, composition, environment, camera settings, and posing to allow post processing to be optional? I’ll... [Read More...]
Spiraling Through a Whirlwind Week Capturing Every Moment (D136)
The theme of spirals is fitting for our photography today. I saw fun images of seashells and pasta, then wondered why I hadn’t thought of using those objects. What I did find sitting on our piano was a spiral bound book of inspiring verses. I grabbed it and went to work. First set of images I tried were in front of the open window with light streaming in and some lens flare. I wanted to transform the plain spirals into something different,... [Read More...]
