“in books i have traveled, not only to other worlds, but into my own.”
- anna quindlen

Profound and great truth about the world of books. For those of us who love them, they open a world outside of our own experience. Even more intriguing is the world that books open into our own souls.

Shakespeare & Co. famously nurtured aspiring and accomplished writers in Paris during the artistic boom of the 1920′s. This image is just one of many I captured during my visit there in August. I felt transported to a world that was at once comfortable, familiar and new. It was breathtaking and creativity inducing.

I am still searching for such a place now that I have returned home. Do you have a place like this where you feel drawn to go in and hide out? If so, tell me where so I may discover it too.

Perhaps I will have to create one of my own… a place where writers and readers and dreamers can go to hide, to dream, and think.

If I create a space like that, would you come visit?

Image Note: This image was chosen for my dear artistic friend Jen Folz who sent me a handwritten note and remarked about the image in my sidebar that shows Shakespeare & Co. When I read her note, I knew I needed to share another image, if just for her to imagine herself in this magical place.

What image from Paris would you like to see next? More bookstores and artist haunts or museum pieces and landmarks, rivers and parks? Let me know and I will do my best to oblige!

I was reading along and thinking how much I love finding cafe’s, bookshops and gardens to stir my inspiration and then was so touched to see your imagine notation. :) It always amazes me how much a place or image can draw you in. I love seeing your work from Paris!

Thank you so much for your kind words! Someday we’ll hide away in a cafe or bookshop together!
