Exploring Art Journals

My creativity is being re-ignited. It’s started in small ways and showing up in areas long forgotten.

All of a sudden I have recollections of coloring for hours on end when I was young (and not so young). I remember the calming effect coloring had on my mind and heart.

Here’s what I want to know…

  1. Why is it that so many coloring books are created for children?
  2. Where are the coloring books for grown-ups?
  3. Why is it that once we get older, we must create our own pictures to color?

Makes me think.

This is a close up shot of my first art journal page. I’m starting a new book, bringing in my writing, scrapbooking, and photography to create a new chapter.

What about you? Have you ever created an art journal?

Thanks for the inspiration to finally post about my art journal. It’s a really personal project and I have spent a lot of time in it lately. I mentioned your post and linked to it too. You can read the post here: goo.gl/fb/ewD0S

Yay! Love that you were inspired to share your own creativity. I went to check it out and I think the title of your book is absolutely perfect. Thanks so much for sharing and creating!

I just started yesterday! I love coloring books too and look for “adult” coloring pages online for fun images to color.

Wouldn’t it be fun to have a girls night coloring party… or some such thing? I remember spending hours with my girl friends when I was young just coloring, quietly sitting next to each other, or sharing secrets, all while coloring pages in front of us. Would be fun!
