Insecurity. Honesty. Beauty.
Scarlett, one of our Teen Identity team alumni, is back to share about insecurity, confidence and lessons learned. Listen in to the heart of a beautiful young teen girl…
IN HER OWN WORDS
If you feel insecure, what do you tell yourself or do to get your confidence back?
I’ve recently learned to accept myself, but I’m still a teenage girl so I do still have those feelings of insecurity; I just tell myself that there is absolutely no one in the world that’s quite like me and of course I’m no where near the skinniest or the prettiest or the most talented person in the world, but I’m me, so what if I don’t have 16 friends every bloody place I go and so what if it makes me really weird to hate shoes or to not have an iPhone I me and that’s all that matters. There’s only one Scarlett Rayne Tsokalas in the world and I’ve occupied that space and no one can tell me, not even me, not to be.
Not too long ago a wise woman told me, “Never HATE the people who are jealous of you, instead LOVE them…because they’re the people who truly think you’re amazing.”
I’ve always been about loving everybody, even the people who hate me, but something clicked when she told me that. I was like, “Wow, that’s why people are mean to me?”
After that whenever someone would say something like, “Your really weird or stupid” or something like that I just say that quote to myself and I feel better, cause maybe that is the truth.
What’s the MOST IMPORTANT lesson you’ve learned from Teen Identity?
That I am beautiful, just in a different way.
What are your favorite memories or moments from this past photo shoot?
I really like when I got to where the dress that looked like something Audrey Hepburn would wear…it was a pretty nifty dress.
More images and stories coming over the next few weeks from our latest Teen Identity team photo shoot… where we empower and inspire girls to unleash their true beauty, find their voice, and change their world… forever.
