One of the recent business books I’ve been reading is Rework Quotes from Rework: Good Enough Is Fine by Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hanson. Their ideas and advice challenge everything we think to be true in the way we work. Just look at this…

Today Michael Hyatt shared his favorite insights from the book… since they mirrored many of my own, I thought I’d share them with you as well.

  • Learning from mistakes is over-rated
  • Scratch your own itch
  • No time is no excuse
  • You need less than you think
  • Launch now
  • Interruption is the enemy of productivity
  • Good enough is fine
  • Long lists don’t get done
  • Say no by default
  • Don’t write it down
  • Press releases are spam
  • Marketing is not a department
  • Send people home at 5

It’s worth picking up a copy or hop over to Michael Hyatt’s site to apply to get one of 50 free copies he’s giving away. Remember to rethink how you work and you might actually get more done!

Sounds like a fun and thought-provoking read.

I worked for Pacific Bell, the big, California based baby-bell. Back in the, oh, early 90s, I guess, they had an advertising slogan, “Good enough isn't.” Geez, talk about toxic! In an industry plagued with analysis paralysis, this was the worst slogan ever. It was great for customers — we think you deserve the very best of everything. But as a working principle, not so much.

Some tasks/projects deserve our best efforts. Others deserve either the very least effort we can give them to git 'er done or, sometimes, no effort at all. The trick is to distinguish in a given situation how much effort (if any) the thing merits.

Great insight! Sounds like you learned it the hard way. My 365 challenge this year has taught me about good enough because 365 days can't all be jaw-dropping images!
