Location Scouting for a Family Shoot (D305)

Only 60 days left in this challenge. Is that even possible? The days just seem to be flying by now! If you’re still in the throes of your own 365 project, hang in there… it gets easier, the rewards get higher, and the feeling of accomplishment is out of this world.

Today I got up early to meet a portrait client at her home. We were location scouting for her family photo shoot next week. She’s got 15 people coming in from as far as Honduras for this shoot. And we’ve got ages from 1 to 96!

Per her husband’s suggestion, we decided to try down by the Chatahoochee River, which runs not too far from her home. As soon as we pulled up to the location, I immediately started grabbing a few shots here and there. By the time we reached the river, there was a mist above the water and I knew we had found our shooting location. Now, we just need to pray for good weather!

What do you look for in a good location? Any favorite tips or ideas you use when shooting large family portraits?
