Since starting a detox diet 3 weeks ago, I’ve been eating more sweet potatoes than usual. They’re a staple carb in my diet and one I’ve come to love since I first tried sweet potato fries after moving to the South. While I’ve tried a few different recipes and combinations, my favorite is still sliced sweet potato with cinnamon and stevia (sugar substitute).
Tonight I was preparing my usual dinner when I peeled the potato and found this…

My sweet potato had an unusual stripe right through the entire thing. I’d never seen anything like it. It didn’t smell or feel any different, but was almost just like an albino stripe showed up in the growth somehow.
Made me think about how often we have stripes, scars, markings on the inside that we try to camouflage with thick skin, but once someone starts to peel back the layers they see what we’re trying to hide. I decided to make it my picture for the day.
I had wanted to take Brian Palmer’s suggestion and shoot a picture of a dumpster in honor of his inspiring post yesterday, but with the heat wave happening, the last place I wanted to be today was outside near a dumpster… heat + garbage does not equal a pleasant experience. I’ll see if I can give it a go tomorrow… you should too! He’s posting images photogs send in on his blog.
So, you get to see sweet potatoes instead. Kinda fitting since I just watched “Yes Man” with my husband… a movie about saying “YES” to life. Pretty cute, some laugh out loud moments.
What was the last thing you said YES to?
