Ever feel like you’re stuck in a rut creatively? Maybe you’re making strides in one area to the exclusion of all others?
Perhaps you’re focused on photography, but still dream of writing a book someday. Or maybe you’re a whiz at design, but really want to return to your roots as a painter. Maybe you simply miss the good old days of coloring books and crayons.
Whatever your current focus or passion, there is always room for growth and expansion. In fact, allowing yourself to begin or return (even if just for a short time) to a different creative outlet, can often enhance and strengthen your current artistic endeavors. That’s where diversity training in the creative arts can lead to innovation and inspiration.
Consider Gordon Parks: photographer, musician, poet, novelist, journalist, activist and film director… he was prolific and accomplished, not limiting himself to one genre.
If you feel the creative well running dry, reach for a new artistic medium and see what it does to expand your imagination and your world.
Today I reached for the drawing pencil and oil pastels. It’s been an incredibly long time since I just had some fun drawing with pencil and paper… my image for the day is a photograph of what I created. The mere act of trying something different was energizing!
