That’s right. You can create special effects with shutter speed. But you probably already knew that right?
If you know it, when was the last time you tried it?

After participating in Creative Live’s online Digital Photography Fundamentals webinar today, I decided to create some special effects using shutter speed. Since I had plenty of driving around to do tonight, and since I follow Jay Maisel’s advice to always carry my camera, I was ready at every stop light to capture passing cars.

My entire relationship with red lights has been transformed. Now I actually look forward to them. Funny how something so small can significantly alter your perspective.

When it comes to our photography and any other creative endeavor, it’s critical that we remember to attempt new things and be willing to fail miserably. What better time that an average day to play with adding blur with shutter speed? I wouldn’t want to try it for the first time during a photo shoot, but now I’m definitely going to look for ways to incorporate it in my next senior model photo shoot.

How about you? Are you ready to fail miserably and become a better photographer in the process? Tell me how!
Manual: Instead of reading the manual, I spent over 2 hours watching the Creative Live seminar all about the camera. I learned about the seminar via Chase Jarvis… they’re free if you watch online so check it out and get signed up!
