Honeybees are known for their industrious production of liquid gold, otherwise known as honey. They are a symbol of work, creative activity, busyness, cooperation, orderliness and diligence.
When I look at my own activity on a daily basis, I wonder if the same could be said of me. Can you locate the bee in the image? Look close it’s hiding.

I shot this image not knowing I would actually be able to see the wing of the bee and part of his body. What a delight to see it when I zoomed in on the image in Lightroom. After an incredibly productive and organized day yesterday, I felt like I was behind the 8-ball all day today. Ever have days like that?
Before I jumped back on the GTD bandwagon, I would probably have just chalked it up to a bad day and moved on hoping that tomorrow would be better. But I know that this time the great day I had yesterday was because I had a clear plan of what needed to be accomplished and I was able to knock it out with intense focus and diligence. Today, I created the plan but found myself veering off it one too many times… distracted by the beautiful spring flowers perhaps.

So what can we do to be more like the bee?
Here’s what I’m going to start Monday morning…
- Write down a list at the end of every work day that includes the MUST DO actions for the following day.
- Only include 5 MUST DO items and a few others at the most.
- Check my schedule before writing the list to make sure events don’t interfere.
- Start tracking good and bad days so I can see whether or not there are patterns on certain days.
What would you add to the list? Were you productive or just busy today?
