Even if you’re not a fan of Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek, chances are the title of this post sounds at least vaguely familiar. It’s the ominous warning from the Borg (who my husband would argue are the greatest villains ever created in the Star Trek universe).
Somehow this three word phrase has made it into our common vernacular, so much so that well-known teacher and pastor Andy Stanley used it in his message this weekend. His usage was in the context of the futility of running from God. I think there is a similar futility in running from your lifework or calling as an artist and creative.

I can guarantee that there are those of you reading this who are, even now, running from and fighting against that very thing. Maybe you’ve given into fear or have gotten used to the safety and security of your current life.
Might you consider that resisting will not make your creative purpose vanish. Chances are that if you’re reading this, you know that you have something to do with your art, even if just to help you see differently and make sense of the world around you.
Why not make a decision today, in some small way, to stop resisting.
Give in to the muse. Move toward the call. Let your art fly.
