I’m Giving Up My Moleskin… For a RevolveR (D156)

Tasra Dawson —  February 3, 2010 — 33 Comments

You read that right. I’m giving up my moleskin. I’ve been converted to a RevolveR. Ever heard of it? Neither had I until last week, but now I’m sold.

Keep reading for a chance to WIN one of your own!

While working at Apple, I found that for many, the moleskin was the creative journal of choice. I hadn’t used one for years, but jumped on the bandwagon and began using a standard black moleskin for all my notes. I have one for photography notes and training from conferences and seminars. I have another one for personal ideas, thoughts, and quotes. They are always within arm’s reach. I take them everywhere when traveling. So when I say I’ve been converted, that is no small feat.

But once you get a look at the style and amazing functionality of this new journal, you will easily see why. The Revolver bound journal is called “The Tool for the Dual.” Dual is defined as: having a double character or purpose: a belief in the dual nature of reality. What that means to me is that it fits my dual personality and interests… instead of having to have two different moleskin notebooks, I can use one RevolveR journal for two different topics. It literally has a split spine you can fold back. So the journals I got to see and photograph are black on the outside and burgundy or green on the inside. Ingenious!

They’ve even got their packaging down to to make it fun to unwrap your new RevolveR! I love their tag line: RevolveR is the journal with two beginnings and endless possibilities.

I’m thrilled to be carrying both large and small sizes in four different colors in my OpenSky shop. Have you visited me there yet? I’ve got only the best products that I personally use or recommend, including the studio lights I mentioned in my article about NOT fixing images in post and the 50 mm lens I used for the latest fashion magazine pop photography. The RevolveR is the latest addition to my shop!

HERE’S HOW TO WIN…
Hop over to OpenSky to check out the RevolveR… tell me what dual projects or ideas you would use it for and what color you like best. Leave your comment below to enter to win a New Leaf small bound journal. I’ll pick the most creative comment on Feb. 14!

For extra entries, tweet, blog or Facebook the following message as many times as you like before Feb. 14…

Win a RevolveR, the journal with two beginnings and endless possibilities, from @tasradawson & @openskyproject: http://bit.ly/OS-jrnl

I like the Rioja color best. This is really cool! I would use it for my writing projects and keeping track of client projects.

ooo, I'm such a moleskine person, but that leaf journal has me written all over it!

If I had one of these I would share it with my sweetheart. I would write love notes to him in one side and leave it on his nightstand, then he could write love notes to me and put it back on my nightstand. Two beginnings with one happy ending!

I love my Moleskines so much, but these look intriguing and I'd love to try one!
I would use one side for photo ideas/sketches, and the other side for poetry.

How FUN are these? I would love a Rioja since it goes with my business color; however I am not sure where I would start with writing because I'd be enthralled with flipping it inside and out over and over again like in the video ;-) I think I would use one half for inspirational thoughts and plans for marketing and the other to keep my never-ending check off list. Always fun to put something on paper to cross it off~ and get a sense of accomplishment to see all those crossed off items!

Currently I use letter-sized yellow writing pads, never really got what people saw in Moleskins; this however, looks awesome, and would solve my problem of needing one for my day job and one for my consulting — and it would have to be in the green.

This looks great. I need idea book for my Multi-Media Class and my photography products. Thanks for introducing us to a new product.

This would be perfect for my double life: I could use the green one for everything about photography (new ideas and projects) ad the black one for my sw engineering profession. :)

Blue, Blue, Blue! It's my favorite color, plain and simple, but the Rioja rocks too.

For my work notebook, I'll open it up normally and write my To Do checklists, but for meeting notes, I'll flip the notebook upside down and open it from the back cover. So this way, long notes from meetings go in one place instead of messing up To Do lists. This thing seems like a much cooler way to keep such things organized though. (Disclosure: I work at OpenSky so I can't win! Guess I'll just have to buy one.)

I love the silver! I would use it for my photography notes and projects and my regular journal entries. It is such a clever idea and looks effective in keeping things separate but equal. Notes are always lost in my regular journal and I have to search and search to find them. This looks like it would solve that problem.

Better than a Moleskin?! Heresy! I do have to say that I love the overall quality of Moleskin and am a recent convert from graph paper pads, but I have always missed the option of a spiral bind that would allow me to fold it into a tablet. Sounds like RevolveR has solved that…

I'm an OpenSky team member so I'll get my own, but I'm also purchasing one as a Valentine's Day gift for my artistic wife (hint hint for anyone else who is looking for something unique).

I'm a sucker for a great journal. I carry my moleskin in my purse all the time, keep notes, or just write for fun. This one looks like another one I'd love to try. Being from sunny LA with lots of beaches, the blue one is my favorite. Plus, with the recent big purse I purchased, I could even carry the larger one.

Thanks for the intro to a new product.

These look perfect for writing. I would use the blank side to do mind maps–character development, plot development, brainstorming; and the lined side to write. The blue reminds me of my sweet kitty cat's eyes, so that's my favorite.

  • http://www.facebook.com/heidy.sutherland Heidy Sutherland

Love the blue one, I would use one side to write the 51 reasons why I love my husabnd and the otherside for my second joy which is taking my photoshop elements class as it would be a stunning way to keep my notes.

  • http://quakingaspen.wordpress.com/ falwyn

Oh the fascination! I would use it as my zing notebook – zing is the little inspiration everywhere around… but so often I don't notice, or don't write it down and then it's gone. Story ideas, whatever – that'd be the lined side, and sketches, drawing, maybe the occasional pasted photo or clipping, notes & drawings for sign language class – all that on the blank side.
It looks so fun to use, too! I like the silver.

Great product…thank you so much for sharing it with us and giving us the opportunity to win one.

My favorite color combo would have to be the Rioja and I actually think I would like the smaller book best. I have never been good about keeping a journal. I need to, index cards are not cutting it any more. I would use one side as my photography inspiration journal-ideas to try, locations, etc. and on the flip side would be my Mommy Journal. I always think to myself….I should write that down, the girls might find that funny one day. But none the less…I never do.

these are a great idea, i`m so glad i happened upon your site! i will be doing a working holiday from March-December to Australia and NZ and the dual notebook concept would be very helpful. i might use one for each country i'll be in, or one for work related notes and the other for holiday thoughts and memories…having to pack efficiently, this would save me some space too! my favourite colours are the new leaf, or rioja.

  • http://225photography.com/ amanda

i'm a moleskine-aholic but must admit these look fabulous! i love the green notebook — i think i'd use it for a personal photo project i just started. one side would be for the writings/musings that will accompany the photos, the other side will be for sketching out photo ideas, composition, etc.

  • littlemoophoto

I love the blue. Although I think it would be very cool if it was blue and new leaf or blue and silver. Basically all the colors are great though!

I would use one side for sketches of photo ideas and the other for educational notes, to do lists, inspirational quotes I hear or read… basically to record my life. : ).

PS… Always love what you have to say. You are a great inspiration to me.

  • http://www.kimmcmillan.typepad.com/ Kim

That is brilliant! I'm forever carrying around several books…one for work, one for general life! Having two books in one is genius. I love great design.

  • macartisan

I'd use these to design a iPad app specifically designed to create sketchnotes during design conferences (already started in my plain ol' Moleskine). I'd use one 'side' for formal design and the other for collecting reference material.

Of course, my idea is SHINY, so I'd pick the Silver color.

  • http://meinketoy.com/index.htm deb

Ooooo, I love it! I'd use it for my photography & art notes, and for my fiber art business.

Hmmm, red or green……red or green…….ummmm…….green!

  • theoriginaljensmith

I love the RevolveR!! I like the Rioja the best. I think I would use one side for art work, or photo ideas/tips/tricks and the other for writing my secrets!

  • Mary

Having journaled since high school. I love my Moleskine journals and calendars. This would help because currently I use two Moleskines: one for phones calls and another as a personal journal. Now your telling me I can carry only one book: with a turn of the page have the other right there and still keep them in date sequence. The magnetic closure is a great plus. Life can get simpler!

Rioja is my favorite color. N
    ew
    leaf
    !
    is nice too

I use my moleskine for everything. I have one in my craft workshop, one on my desk, one in my purse, I even have one in my library bag. I am not sure I could give it up that easily. I'll be interested to see how you like it. It does look cool….

Thanks, Tasra. My husband bought me the green/black small notebook for Valentine's Day from your OpenSky shop. For some reason, I couldn't figure it out – every time I turned it “inside out,” the pages for the other half of the notebook then turned from the left instead of the right. Watching the video you have here really helped. Now I'm all set to use my new notebook.
