How to Unclutter Your Life in One Week – Part 5: Organize Your Jewelry & Accessories

Tasra Dawson —  January 22, 2010 — 13 Comments

Today it’s all about the bedroom, but the truth is that my bedroom wasn’t really that cluttered. Since I frequently struggle with insomnia, I rearranged my room years ago so that it was a place of peace without all the clutter. But, there was one holdout…my jewelry and other accessories.

Like many people, without the right organizing strategy, I couldn’t ever get them under control. Then, when I inherited more jewelry from my mother-in-law, I had beautiful heirlooms still stuck in an ugly brown box. It just wasn’t right and I didn’t like the feeling that I was not honoring those memories.

So, today’s episode takes care of all that. Every time I look at what I’ve created now, it makes me smile. No more jewelry scattered all over the surfaces of the dressers, which clears up space to surround ourselves with things we love. You got that message right? Surround yourself with things you love that bring you joy and remind you who you are, where you’ve been and where you’re going.

As a person that does not wear jewelry or use many accessories, I'll take today to work on my craft area and computer areas more. :) I own exactly 4 purses – Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. Two computer bags, which more often get used as purses all year round. Thank you for this week's videos – I'll be re-viewing them again in the near future!

I have used a tackle box without a lid in my drawers for all my Antique Jewelry. It works really well, but you have to make sure it fits before you stick it in the drawer and close it or you might not be able to open the drawer again. I’ve done that not once, but TWICE. I’ve also heard of people using egg cartons to keep their jewelry from clumping together.. A little chincy for me, but whatever works.
