In an ideal world, I would be greeted every morning with this view, or something similar.
Being by the bay the past three days reminded me how much I miss and love the water. I think some people were just born to live by the water. Others may be born to live in the mountains, or in the city, but I was born to live by the water. Maybe it’s the Nordic blood running through my veins, the Viking heritage. It’s possible.
When you look back at my family line, we have often lived by or worked on the water. My great grandfather was a Navy officer for nearly 30 years and then a ferry boat captain. Much of my family lived and were raised in or near Santa Barbara. My grandfather was in the Navy as well and lived in Hawaii for much of his adult life. He swam in the ocean every single day. My dad was in the Coast Guard. My uncle was a professional billfish fisherman and boat captain. Can you see the pattern emerging?
So why do I live so far from the sea. If you read my vision statement, you know that even my middle name means the sea. I was meant to live by the sea. And when I am around it, when I dig my toes in the sand, feel the ocean breeze on my face, smell the salty air, and hear the roar of the waves, my soul is at rest.
My wish, hope, prayer, goal, dream is to someday wake every morning to a view of the sea I love so much. And it doesn’t have to be the ocean or any specific body of water, even a lake might do. Starting today I’m going to begin putting some creative energy and thought to how I can make that a reality. Any thoughts? I’m open to them seeing as how the cost and logistics of such a move could be prohibitive. Surely you have some ideas for me…right?
Feature Friday: Fire Marshal Ken! He’s a happily married Father of 4 and Grandfather of 3 posting nearly every day on his blog at CrytoDaze. Stop by and take a look at some of his fun images, including chocolate chip cookies. Yum. Thanks for joining the challenge Ken!
Specs: Nikon D50, 28 – 80 mm lens, ISO 200, Vivid Pic setting. Using the Vivid Pic setting in Manual really brought out the bright blues in the water and sky. Very little processing in Lightroom to sharpen and add contrast.
Manual: Page 70—Language and Comments.
Images: Looked at portraits and photo shoots in Elle magazine. Interesting to pull ideas from there to use in my own photography.
