D67: Family Matters

It’s been 3 years since I saw my Uncle Johnny, Aunt Tanya and cousin Isaac. That is way too long to go without seeing family. Since they live close to NOLA, we remedied that tonight. They graciously opened up their home to us for a delicious home-cooked meal and dessert.

From balloons to beads, cake to cardboard boxes, we caught up on what we’ve missed over the years. And now that we’ve reconnected, we agreed to not let so much time go by next time.

I captured this image of my Uncle Johnny holding a bead necklace from Mardi Gras last year. They have bags and bags of them and my favorite one was the one I had him hold: Forever New Orleans. Added a couple extra shots just for fun!

NOLA Slideshow: I’ve got the images ready for the show, but right now I’m camping on an internet connection from a neighboring house which is very low and spotty. I’ve already lost connection once and am literally shivering outside in the freezing cold just so I can get this post up! No one can say I’m not dedicated to this challenge! So I’m going to wait to post it tomorrow. It’ll be worth the wait.

Images: Looked at images and portraits on the wall in my parent’s home. One common element—all the work is signed. Joe Buissink brought up the topic of signing your images when you deliver to clients. If we’re artists, we should treat our photography as such, which means signing your prints. I like that idea…just gotta figure out how to practically implement it.

I really like the sharpness of this photo; it makes me think my main lens needs some upgrading. Your Uncle seems like a really unique person and I like the way you've got him sharp and the beads blurred.

Yep, he is an incredibly unique individual and I feel blessed to call him Uncle. He's always had the kindest heart and gentle way about him. Just plain good people. Know what I mean?
