D30: Getting the Perfect Product Shot

tasra365 teenidentity DVD D30: Getting the Perfect Product ShotOkay, maybe perfect isn’t the right word. I wouldn’t say my product shot is technically perfect, but it’s perfect for what I need. I’ve been wanting to take some product shots for my business for a while to put them on my Teen Identity website. But, it just became one more thing on my to do list.

Since I was sending out this CD with images and video to one of my senior portrait clients, I thought it’d be a great time to grab a product shot. I even set it up with the right background so when I add them to my website, I’ll be ready.

Did some post processing to sharpen and increase contrast. Cropped a bit on the sides as well. There you have it. Day 30! Just one day away from a full month on this photography challenge. How are you doing?

Manual: Read Notices, page iv. Basic notices about camera, but wait! There’s a specific note for California residents, of which I used to be one.

Notice for customers in the State of California WARNING: Handling the cord on this product will expose you to lead, a chemical known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling.

I have NEVER seen this before. Two red flags for me. They’re only telling California residents because they’re probably obligated to by law. What about everyone else? Is California the only state that knows lead causes birth defects and reproductive harm? This just seems odd. And it doesn’t say which cords. My camera came with 3 different cords. Am I supposed to wash my hands after handling any of them? How many of you do that? Have you ever heard of this?

Images: I’m teaching at the same event as Jeremy Cowart! It’s the annual conference for SPA (Senior Portrait Artists) set for January. (I’m on page 17 of their catalog!) Since Jeremy recently started following me on Twitter and became my friend on Facebook, I sent him a quick message saying I was excited to meet him in person at the event.

Then I spent some time clicking through the links on his Facebook page and came across “Awakening.” It’s a 3 month, 17 city, world tour that he did as the official photographer. Absolutely stunning imagery and I love the way it’s presented. I’m thinking I’d like to create a video like this once I’m done with my tasra365!

His assistant also put together a behind the scenes video of their time on tour. It’s very cool because it shows Jeremy taking some of the shots in the first video. You see what and when he’s choosing to shoot. It might give you some ideas for shots to take for your 365 challenge!

About the lead: unless the device containing any electrical connections was made in a factory built from the ground up as a RHoS facility and all parts used are from a similar factory, the device may have trace amounts of lead from solder in it.

If you have any concerns, just wipe the cords several times with a good de-greasing agent.
