D29: That’s a Girl Car!

D29: That’s a Girl Car!

And I quote. Here’s what happened. I was playing in my son’s room and he wanted to play cars. He said he had a car for me and gave me the car you see pictured above. (It used to be his sister’s toy car.) He proceeded to tell me that I could play with it because it was a “girl car.” He’s four.

The funniest part of the whole thing was that when we were done playing, I started to put the “girl car” away with the other cars in his room and he told me to stop. He said I could keep it. He wanted me to keep it. He even took it and put it in my room and reminded me that he didn’t need it because… “That’s a girl car Mommy. It’s for you.”

Where do they get this stuff? We didn’t teach him that. In fact, our daughter even tried to get him to play with dolls and Barbies just for fun. He was not interested. He likes to play with cars, planes, trains, trucks, tractors… you get the idea. He likes to watch Mighty Machines that lift, cut, pound, and move things. Out of the mouth of babes comes much entertainment.

For this shot today, I thought I’d just play around. A few years ago, I was introduced to PanosFX by a colleague and friend, Lance Gray of PixelPops. (Follow him on Twitter – he just signed up – he’s a Photoshop guru.) He reminded me of it again in his presentation a few weeks ago at WEVA. So I downloaded the action and decided today’s “girl car” shot was the perfect guinea pig. Don’t even ask how long it took. Way too long. But I was having fun and figured a little fun and experimentation every once in a while with my photography and Photoshop is a good thing. Still not happy with the tires, but had given enough time on it already. This particular action is free and it’s called Out of Bounds.

Manual: Went over page 130—Specifications continued. Same type of stuff I read yesterday, just continued. Did you read your camera specs yet?

Images: Looked at images by Joanne Lee Photography today. She’s a photographer we’ve worked with on weddings and did a photo shoot with our family last year too. Decided to check out her work again since I was updating our wedding website, Dawson Signature Films, with a Charlie Chaplin-esque wedding video and used some of her fantastic images.

It is always interesting when young children come up with gender assignments to things. I remember my son doing the same thing at about that same age.

Seriously cool action for the photo – I love how it came out!

Cool photo! How'd you get the car coming out of the photo effect?

Funny my 4 year old daughter hates the Mighty Machines show, said “it's a boy show”. Nature vs. nuture, it's by design no matter how hard you try or try not to influence them.

    love the effect
