This is what my life has become. Okay, maybe that’s an exaggeration. But maybe not. I am thinking, breathing, reading, writing, practicing, and talking about photography every single day. I see pictures everywhere I go and feel like my camera is attached at my hip. I never thought that taking on this challenge would so completely alter the way I even think about the world. Amazing. And all from an innocent dinner conversation with Scott Bourne.
It really just goes to show you that nothing is by accident. So much of what we do and who we become is directly tied to who we know and how we listen. Think about the conversations you have every day. What could one statement, one question, one challenge from you create in someone else’s life? When you start to multiply that with the use of Twitter, Facebook, and blogs, the vast potential for creating change becomes mind-blowing. How will you change the world today?
For today’s image, I don’t really see the picture itself as incredibly stunning. But the story and message behind it is what gets me. All these books, all these photographers creating amazing images over time, and all of them sitting in my living room.
Manual: Page 39—Sensitivity (ISO Equivalency). Basically this page in the manual told me that if I’m getting blurry shots, I can keep the same aperture and raise the ISO higher than 200 so my pictures will be less blurry. With the caveat that anything higher than the default ISO 200 could result in mottled (grainy) images. Don’t I know it. I seriously want a Canon 5D Mark II so that I can get the shots I want without blur and grain. (Scott Bourne & Canon if you’re listening—pick me! :-)
Images: I’ve mentioned Chase Jarvis before. How could one not mention him at least eventually in a blog about photography? I looked at his images again today because his new iPhone camera app, book, and website were released yesterday. In the first 24 hours: Best Camera app debuted at #12 of all paid apps in the app store, The Best Camera Is The One That’s With You, debuted at #172 of all titles on Amazon, www.thebestcamera.com saw 200,000 sets of eyes. That’s quite a feat and speaks to the huge following of Chase, as well as the community and network he has built.
