D16: Rain is Gonna Come

D16: Rain is Gonna Come

Where do I start? I’ve written the first sentence to this post 5 times and nothing quite fits. Here’s what I’m trying to say: Mean people suck. Tweeps and FB friends rock. Photography brings me solace.

Searching for a shot today I ran into something new. It reminded me of rain, which as a Seattle native, I adore. In that moment I was reminded of the reality that rain will surely come. For me. For you. For all of us. At some time or another, rain is gonna come. Sometimes it will be a light rain not worth even putting up your hood. Other times it’ll be a torrential downpour and you’ll feel like you’ve been bathed by the heavens. Then there are those times when the wind, rain, and storms all team up to leave you feeling small and minute in a world bigger than yourself.

That’s what I was thinking about when shooting the image above and the ones below. There is something so peaceful and yet so powerful about water in all its forms. The mere act of capturing these images brought a strange peace to my soul that surprised me. It was like reading a good book curled up in front of a roaring fire. A select few things bring me that type of peace. Photography did today. I hope it stays.

Manual: Read page 108 in the camera manual—Using the Built-In Flash and Red Eye Reduction. Rarely use it. Do you?

Images: Viewed images by Ansel Adams. Have loved his work since as early as high school when I was given an Ansel Adams daily planner. My husband said a couple of my images in black and white today reminded him of Ansel Adams. Maybe he was just being encouraging, but what a compliment. Made me want to see Ansel’s work again.

Haha! You and I read the same page of the manual today. And to answer your question, no I never use the on camera flash. Don't like it much. Last resort kind of thing. I also have to agree about water. Having a pool is what makes things amazing. Whenever I need to relax I just hop in and go underwater. Love it. Amazing shots today Tasra.

Nice work, interesting shapes great selection of black and white, and I like the inverted technique, (or I may be wrong on that).
    Regards

Ha! That's funny. :-) Yeah, on camera flash is last resort. I hate using it and am never satisfied with pictures when I do. Thanks for the feedback on the images today!

Thanks Jack! I was quite happy with the way they looked in black and white. Simple and clean. Didn't do any inverting as far as I know… maybe you could describe what you were thinking was done.

Excellent image, simple and to the point. And I am loving your writing style, really compliments the images post.

Thank you, thank you. This blog is really such a fun blend of two passions: writing and photography. Who knew I'd find a way to bring them both together!

  • jackandrys

Top right I thought may have been inverted but I wasn't sure, just goes to show.:)

My post on my 365Challenge after a devastating night of hurt and a thousands tears… YES, MEAN PEOPLE SUCK!

But I have the passion to succeed and love my work! My heart is totally in it! Now, time to sharpen my photography skills. I want my image quality to match the passion in my heart! I love my clients and telling their stories through my images.

Wow! I mean.. just wow! Your images are absolutely stunning. But more than that, much more than that, your thoughts and insights in your daily posts here are what really continues to amaze me. I'm so grateful to you for this project, to be able to share your beautiful pictures, and what appears to be your equally beautiful mind, is a real treat. So don't let the meanies get you down, because in the end, they're just jealous of your talent. I also share your feelings about water. I live in Stockholm, Sweden, a city completely surrounded by water, with a beautiful archipelago, and I couldn't imagine living somewhere without that close proximity to water.

Wow!!! Spectacular. I really like this one. I did a theme of photos called Evidence of Rain. This is an excellent example of that theme. I find themes interesting, and am trying to collect images for various themes.

Ansel is one of the great photographers who inspired me to become a photographer. I love the serene scene, use of shadows and attention to detail

Awesome Images Tasra! Love the 1st color one! Also love your thoughts. Interesting…. as I walk into the studio this morning around 6:30
I said to myself “I wish it would rain today. I could really use one of those great thunderstorms!” HAHA! Listening to the rain and rolling thunder in the clouds, always makes me get into myself and become more creative. Plus, we haven't had any rain here in quite awhile. :(
So, thanks for some rain. I feel much more creative now! :)

There is a trail I take when I walk that has sailboats and a bath house and when I come back around on my way home it lights up like the crosses in Moonrise and I think of his work every time I walk. I love his work! Excellent shots today.

I really like the way that B&W draws out the shape a whole lot more. I actually just discovered how to boost the contrast on my camera directly on to the image. I mostly shoot raw, but I think it will help me understand light more when I use it.

So what exactly is this a picture of? I've tried to do water shots, but haven't really seen something like this…is it a fountain?

I'm just reading this comment now. I'm so sorry to hear about your devastating night Christy. You have such a kind heart and sweet spirit. Strengthen your heart and hold on to your passion. You will succeed. I just know it.

Ah, I'm jealous. You live in Sweden, a place I've always wanted to visit. That along with Norway to visit my Nordic roots.

Thank you so much for your kind and encouraging words. They seriously bolster my heart and give me strength to keep walking out this journey one day and one image at a time!

I wonder how many others Ansel Adams inspired to become photographers. I'll bet there are countless others. What a gift he had to be able to create stunning imagery and inspire a generation of budding photographers.

I love the rain too Donna. So glad you found your piece of rain in my images when you needed it. :-)

  • http://tasra365.com tasra

It's similar to a fountain. It was a large umbrella-like structure in the kiddie pool at the resort where we were staying. The water was flowing off it on all sides so I kept moving to find the best angle.
