Empowering teen girls and real women to
LIVE INSANELY GREAT.

Day 8: Do What Makes You Come Alive

"Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive." Howard Thurman

Do you feel yourself coming alive? Have you sensed a renewed passion and 6a00d83451bb0b69e20120a539b5a7970c pi Day 8: Do What Makes You Come Aliveexcitement for your life? Are you beginning to embrace the possibilities and focus on the future? Doesn't it feel good?

If you've been following along with my blog for a while now you know I've begun to pursue photography professionally. It grew out of my love for scrapbooking and preserving memories. Photography is one of those dreams that died and was frozen over… until new life was breathed into that dream and it came alive again. As that dream came alive, so did I… not even realizing that when it died, a part of me died with it. I believe that breath of life was God's grace for me.

So I'm alive and feeling powerful because the vision I have for my photography is so much bigger than myself. I've taken my heart and passion for teen girls and translated that to photography and eventually into a magazine, Teen Identity Portraits & Magazine. As I've pursued this road, I've seen my own creativity grow, but more importantly, I've seen the hearts and minds of young girls come alive with ideas, inspiration and freedom.

I'd like to share that dream with you in the short film we created to represent Teen Identity… this is my heart.

Here's your challenge for today…

Who might you be if you let go of fear and lived life "full throttle?"

Make a list of all the things that prevent you pursuing your dreams.

Whatever your faith or beliefs, what would it take for you to trust God can use you and your failures to fulfill a purpose and a promise with your life?

What's your greatest fear in letting go? Journal about how you would face this fear if you only had one month to live.

Fabulous! I have always had the love for photography and was very involved with journalism in high school and college. My love for scrapbooking is an example of my passion to document history. Beyond that, documenting by photography has grown into art for me.
In certain circumstances, I can see that I do a wonderful job of framing my subjects and my photos show energy and emotion. It’s a hobby I set aside. My desire is to get back to it.
How am I doing that? I just bought a field manual for my Nikon. I am signing up for Nikon school and I am looking for a photographer to take private lessos with. It’s not to start a business. It’s to renew a favorite past time. My daughter has the same interest and this is an opportunity for us to do something together.

Thanks Sallie! It’s been a journey and a blessing. When something dies in front of you and then is brought back, it’s amazing how differently you view it… holding it looser and understanding that it’s not “yours.” Does that make sense?

How is the field manual working? I’ve never been great at getting through my camera manual which is why I bought DVDs instead. ;-)
