Encounters With God

encounters with god Encounters With GodThe mailman has been my best friend the past few weeks since he keeps delivering great stuff to me! This past week I got two copies of the book, Encounters With God: True Stories of Teens on a Sacred Journey. This is a book primarily for teens and guess what…I’m in it! Not as a teen, but writing for teens.

Here’s the bittersweet part—the book was published September 2005 and I just got my copy! It was one of those things that fell through the cracks on the publisher’s end…they were supposed to send two author copies after publication. It fell through the cracks on my end since I wrongly assumed the project was on hold or cancelled as frequently happens in the publishing world.

So good news, bad news

  • Another successful book to celebrate!
  • I’m 2 years late finding out about it.

The story they included is called The Divorce Experience and is a play on the apostle Paul’s well-known Damascus Experience in the Bible. I hope the story was an inspiration to some teens experiencing divorce…it’s so common today and life-changing for everyone involved.

Have you ever had an Encounter With God? Tell me about it in the comments.

    Congrats on your book, Tasra.
I have had so many encounters with God, but my favourites are the little ones that matter to me, like getting a parking space nearby when I’m late and getting an encouraging email from a subscriber on my mailling list just when I need it most.
You know, little things like that :)

I like to think I have encounters w/ Him daily, it’s just my job to actually see and realize them. :) )
Can’t wait to hear the big announcements too.

Tasra – been lurking around here for a while and just decided to check in . . . . I’ve posted about your “philosophy” on my blog this morning in the context of some of my other creative pursuits, and thought you might be interested to see what I’ve been up to when I’m not scrapping. Thanks for all your hard work and the energy and love you put into scrapbooking. Encouraging others to treasure their memories is such a gift and God is truly using you to be a blessing to the world. Keep up the good work! Nina

    Tasra,
Like others, some of my encounters have involved more of a “butting of heads”:0) We all have those moments when “I” know more. I see it as the teen who knows everything, can handle everything, and only comes to the parent when all has crumbled and fallen. We often think we know everything and can handle it all. We run to God when we finally realize that maybe, just maybe, God might know what He is doing.
My most recent encounters have been like this. As a mom, I have been running on empty. Now when I say this to my husband, he looks at me like I am nuts. All he can see is the suburban on the side of the road with a bright, orange E – not going anywhere because his wife didn’t fill it (another story). Yet, when I say this to another mother, they usually know what I am talking about. With four kids, three that are teen/tween…I was on E. Stuck on the side of the road, flashing my hazards, and not going anywhere.
“Hey! I can handle it. I know what I am doing. I am smart enough to do this.” NOT!! After having a LOOONNNGG phone call with a friend, I realized that I had turned into that “I know it, I can handle it,” child and I had forgotten to go to God before it crumbled. (Ok. I know. I need a big DUH thump on the forehead.)
Here I am now – bruised knees, and puffy eyes, finally running to God screaming “FILL ME!”
Why didn’t I do this months ago? Why didn’t I do this before my tank was empty? Probably for the same reason the suburban was on the side of the road last week – time, procrastination, and the “I can handle it” attitude.
I would apologize for the long comment here, but instead, I am going to pray that God fill each of you up. And that you remember to go to God before you end up on the side of the road, flashing your hazards, and screaming “I AM EMPTY!”
