Empowering teen girls and real women to
LIVE INSANELY GREAT.

My Life, Unscripted

mylifeunscripted My Life, Unscripted
Not really "my" life, but everyone’s life. Your life, your daughter’s life…my fellow author, Tricia Goyer’s life. This is her upcoming book and she nailed it! She gets it, she’s writing about it and I love her for that.

Most of us know that young girls hit their teen years and struggle. They struggle with self-esteem, depression, body image, eating disorders, insecurity, harassment, and finding their voice. We know it, we see it, and we want to help. But, the problem is that even if we’ve been through it, we don’t always know how to help. And, more importantly, teens often act like they don’t want or need our help anyway. So what’s a concerned, compassionate woman to do? Read Tricia’s first chapter and see what ideas it sparks for you.

Parts of My LIfe, Unscripted are written like a script. Tricia pulls from her own life experience as a teen getting pregnant and trying to handle it on her own. But it’s not just a personal story, it’s a universal one because there are answers. With the help of her book, kids can write a new script, tell their own story, and leave the B-rate teen movies to those without a script. They can make intentional choices about where they’re going and follow the script that they write with clear minds and as much freedom as possible.

Sounds idealistic, I know. I don’t even pretend to think that one book has all the answers. But I do think it’s a start, a jumping off point where we can find some creative solutions and ways to start a conversation. My inspiration after reading the first chapter online was to start a girls group with my daughter’s school friends or maybe even with some of the junior high youth group girls. I have such a passion for helping girls navigate the treacherous path of adolescence that this is a perfect opportunity to get involved with them again.

Watch this Dove commercial featuring young girls. It’s another company recognizing the importance of reaching out to a generation of girls and women searching for esteem and validation.

What will you do? Maybe it’s as simple as buying a copy of the book for a niece, a friend’s daughter, your daughter or even yourself. Sometimes we don’t have a script even though we live in an adult world and pretend to have it all together. Something to think about on this beautiful day. How could you change one life, even if it’s just your own?
